Check out this Movie: Heavy Metal Parking Lot
The best 17 minute movie ever. Period. The documentary is a slice of America at its best. Recorded with a video camera gives us a taste of what parking lots where like at heavy metal shows. The film makers walk around the parking lot interviewing Priest fans and really getting intimate and having real intellectual conversations about drinking, smoking dope, and jumping Rob Halford's bones.

Joy Division and Unknown Pleasures
Sitting at home tonight talking about music with the roommates and Joy Division and Ian Curtis came up. Joy Division in our opinion is darker then any black metal or goth band around. If you listen to Unknown Pleasures Ian's voice is so dark and haunting. This album is the best to listen to after a bad day, or when someone has just broken your heart and you want to sit in your room and sulk about how shitty the world is and how everyone and everything always fuck you over.

Check out this movie: Until the Light Takes Us
I had been looking for this movie ever since I first heard of it. The whole Norwegian Black Metal thing has been something that has been very interesting to me in the past year or two. Norwegian Black Metal is something much deeper then the upside down crosses and corpse paint and in this movie you get a sense of that. It is defiantly a movie to watch if you are interested in Metal, and Death Metal, or you are just trying to understand the whole thing.

S.F. Pop Fest
S.F. is next week! Five days (May 25th-May 29) in four different venues including a free afternoon show at Dolores Park. Nice variety of band with some must see bands. Dominant Legs Thursday night at Cafe de Nord ($12, 21+)should be fun. Of course The Undertones/The Mantles show Friday night at The Rickshaw Stop ($15-$17, all ages)! Saturday night at The Rickshaw Stop they are having a Slumberland Records showcase with ALOT of bands! With Devon Williams, Brilliant Colors, and The Sea Lions as a must see ($15-$17, all ages). Sunday afternoon FREE all ages show at Dolores Park with surprise line-up (2pm). And finally The Beets on Sunday night at the Hemlock Tavern (8pm $12, 21+).

Check this band out: The Flamin' Groovies
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Why isn't this band up there with the big boys of early power-pop? The good stuff like The Nerves, The Easybeats, and the Small Faces. The Flamin' Groovies formed in 1965 in San Francisco and from the get go had luck going against them. When the popular band in the city where playing flower power--hippie shit the Groovies where playing tunes influenced by British invasion leaving them out of the scene and making it hard for them to kick into the main stream. The Flamin' Groovies would go on to release four albums starting off with Supersnazz (1969), followed by Flamingo (1970). There third album Teenage head (1971) is listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The Groovies would release what in my opinion is their masterpiece Shake Some Action (1976). This album shows them at there best setting off an onslaught of power-pop songs. I haven't listened to a album with as many consistently awesome songs! My personal favorites are the title track "Shake Some Action" and "Yes It's True", but all 14 tracks are boss. CHECK THIS BAND OUT! Its good for you!

Band t-shirts
This is Slayers promotional t-shirt for the single "Mandatory Suicide" often referred to as the "hanging boy shirt". The shirt caused controversy in 88' that caused the band to have to pull it and to stop selling it at shows making the "hanging boy shirt" one of the most expensive and sought after t-shirts out there. The front of the shirt shows a boy hanging in his room with a Sayer South of Heaven poster on his wall. Pretty fucking graphic, but also pretty fucking metal! The back of the shirt has a letter from a military academy addressed to what I'm guessing is the hanging boys parents stating that there is nothing allowed in the academy including records,radio, etc. My favorite part is where it says he needs a haircut. If anyone would be kind enough to buy me this shirt for $500 it would be awesome!
